Our origin

The Story of 4Pillar GiveBack

4PILLAR GIVE BACK was born from the passion of four Master’s students from Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda supported by RUFORUM and Mastercard Foundation through TAGDev program at Egerton University. We witnessed low food production, limited access to quality inputs, research gaps, and poor market linkages in rural Nakuru.

We started by contributing part of our stipends to mobilize communities, conduct soil testing, and introduce climate-smart practices. Today, we are a registered Community-Based Organization in Kenya and operate as Four Pillar Action Initiative (U) Ltd in Uganda, bridging extension gaps and building resilient agripreneurs.

Our participatory model works with Seed Farmers (TOTs) who produce high-quality seedlings, act as seed bankers, and train fellow farmers – creating a self-sustaining network.

Our Four Pillars of Transformation

Driving change through integrated action

Agripreneurship

Empowering farmers as agri-entrepreneurs through seedling production, aggregation, and market linkages.

Community Engagement

Participatory planning, Nyumba Kumi collaboration, and collective action to solve local food challenges.

Sustainable Productivity

Biochar, greenhouses, crop rotation, and GAP to double yields of tomatoes, spinach, amaranth & peppers.

Social Responsibility

Investing stipends back into communities, building food secure villages and youth inclusion.

Our Participatory Approach

We work with “Seed Farmers” – champions trained on soilless media (biochar+peat moss), producing affordable, high-quality seedlings. They serve as Trainers of Trainees (TOTs) ensuring knowledge diffusion across villages. Our technical support includes soil testing, climate-smart practices, and strengthening aggregation points.

  • Farm-level restoration: doubling tomato, carrot, pepper & indigenous vegetable yields
  • Greenhouse adoption + minimum tillage + biochar amendments
  • Linking farmers to markets, input dealers, and research institutions
  • Farmer-led innovation & capacity building through symposia and field days

Strategic Objectives

Improve Productivity

Facilitate GAP trainings, strengthen aggregation points, mobilize resources for research & input access.

Enhance Partnerships

Build capacity of farmers, link with consultants, researchers, and policy advocates to foster market access and sustainable value chains.

Policy & Market Advocacy

Advocate for favorable government policies, promote affiliations with regional professional bodies and create export readiness.
